Venizelos Graves
Chania, Crete

Venizelos graves, the graves of Eleftherios Venizelos and Sofoklis Venizelos, situated in an excellent location of the hill of Prophet Elias, in Akrotiri peninsula, just 5 km east from the city of Chania, Crete.

Both Venizelos graves, next to each other, are in a beautiful park created with gardens, paved paths, stairs, terraces and benches under the shade of pine trees, but what gives awful beauty to this place, are the panoramic views in the sea area, the city of Chania and the whole region.



Eleftherios Venizelos
1864-1936

Eleftherios Venizelos expressed the desire, this place to be his final resting place, just a few kilometers away from his home located in the district of Chalepa, in Chania.

Right next to the grave of the ethnarch, the eulogy has been written, which was his oration to the Greek Parliament, in April 1932.

THE DECEASED WAS A TRUE MAN WITH COURAGE AND CONFIDENCE
FOR HIMSELF AND FOR THE PEOPLE WHO WAS INVITED TO GOVERN MAYBE HE MADE A LOT OF
MISTAKES BUT NEVER LACKED THE COURAGE NEVER BEEN A FATALIST BECAUSE
WASN'T EXPECTING FROM FATE TO SEE HIS COUNTRY BEING ADVANCED HOWEVER PUT AT
ITS SERVICE ALL THE FIRE HE HAD EVERY MENTAL AND PHYSICAL STRENGTH.

1894-1964 

In 1964, next to his father's grave, built the grave of Sofoklis Venizelos, who served as Prime Minister of Greece.
